I fell in love with Economics when I took it as my major in college, and one of the subjects I loved most was Economic History. Given the huge span of literature existing on the subject, most of my classmates took the easy way out, relying on poorly written and often inaccurate `guides'. The idea came to me to combine my love for writing with my love for the subject- and my first published book was born- Economic History of India 1857-1947, created in collaboration with my friend, Samrat Singh!

This book was published just as I ended my first year, and for the first time, I experienced the thrill of seeing my book on shelves and in readers' hands. At the time, the book did pretty well- being reprinted at least four times so the royalties didn't hurt, as they pretty much paid for my college education and pocket money!

I followed this with another volume on Comparative Economic Development, published in 1994.

"It frees the reader from the bondage of single texts and narrowly conceived writings. It broadens their horizons and gives them access to the best material available in economic history of the period in question"
- Professor A.M.Khusro

"If ever proof is needed that the spirit of enterprise is alive and flourishing in India, this effort by two teenagers is it....to consolidate whatever is available and to organize it in a reader friendly manner is an achievement. That two second year students have done this is all the more noteworthy."
- Jairam Ramesh
Advisor, Planning Commission

"I recommend this book with the confidence that it will more than make up the gap that exists today in the literature on the subject in a compact form."
- D.H.Pai Panandiker
Former Secretary General, FICCI
Serving 20 batches of Delhi University Students and still in print!

KEEPING IN TOUCH

Having long left college, and living outside India since 1999, I have largely lost touch with these books. Once in a while, I still meet someone who has graduated recently and has read my book. If you are one of them, I'd love to hear from you and what you thought of my first books!
